Driving the TVR's "Test Track" in the Tuscan Speed Six | Henry Catchpole - The Driver’s Seat

The TVR Tuscan Speed Six is 25 years old, so early cars are now eligible for import in the USA. And that seemed like a very good excuse to take one on a trip around some roads that should feel very familiar to it. TVR didn’t have a test track like Weissach, Nardo or the Nurburgring Nordschleife on its doorstep, so it used the roads near the factory in Blackpool (the UK’s answer to Las Vegas). L...

Nice one Hagerty, another perfectly produced story about a wonderfully innovative era in automotive. This reminds me of the Peter Hanenberger era at Holden in Australia. Equally as triumphant in his turn around of the business yet fell apart when he left. Perhaps you could look into that as a future episode one time? Thanks again.

There is a little bit of Piech in every modern car, as he was a co-inventor of the heated rear window back in the 1970s at Audi, as indicated in the patent.

Sorry, there was not space enough for the ENGLISH VERSION, so one more post from me: Piëch was also the guy who drove VW down the path of pump-nozzle-diesel, a dead-end street which at first seemed so sunny and then was the trigger for the diesel scandal, because his engineers suddenly no longer had a plan for complying with the "new" emission rules (which were the reason for the end of pump-injectors) and suddenly VW was years behind. And he was the guy who launched the incredibly expensive Phaethon, which, despite all the praise, ultimately flopped magnificently. And there were other pompous projects already mentioned by others. He was the guy who paved the way for the self-aggrandising Winterkorn, but when it came to self-importance, he was the benchmark anyway. On the mixed side, he was the guy who successfully told journalists and the common people that gaps and soft-touch surfaces equaled quality. With an ingenious sleight of hand, he replaced product quality with a mere appearance of quality and really fooled (almost) everyone. Good for VW, bad for all of us. Of course, you have to admit that he took over VW in a disastrous state, and without him the whole thing could have completely hit the wall for good. That's actually more than enough for a place of honor in Wolfsburg. But you should always see the whole picture: getting out of the mess at the beginning of his term, but at the end the car was suddenly surprisingly deep in the mud again. He and Winterkorn are perfect reminders that good corporate culture always has to be democratic in some way. The autocracy concept of the two gentlemen may have been very successful here and there, but in the long term it is inferior and even dangerous.

Excellent video but I have never heard of Ferdinand Piech and you missed Maurice Wilks the inventor of the modern SUV. Rover also developed a 5 cyl engine in the 1960s but passed it over for the alloy Buick V8. Porsche actually tried to takeover Volkswagon but cheap funding and the GFC caused the deal to fall down so it was good luck that Porsche became part of VW. It is worth a mention that Jensen Motors had a 4wd passenger car in 1966 for reference.
